Hi there!

I’m Charmaine, and I usually start by saying I’m a farm girl! Truth is, I only lived on a farm until I was 12, but it continues to impact who I am. I am the youngest of six children, born into a middle-class white Mennonite blended family with Swiss roots.

My husband pastored for over 20 years, and we found beauty and deep meaning in the various traditions and people in Christian Reformed, Presbyterian, and Be In Christ churches.

We have been married for over 31 years, and both just turned 51. Our adult kids, Mikaela and Anderson, still live at home. The gift of infertility led us down the adoption road and brought beautiful diversity to our home. Mikaela is mixed race, and Anderson is Ethiopian.

I worked as a hairstylist for years and was grateful for the flexibility of working from home while raising our kids. About 7 years ago, I began working for our denomination in Global work, some HR, and administration. I have loved this change and the way it has increased my skill set and broadened my small world. Somewhere along the way, I began to speak and preach. It has been a gift to encourage, challenge, and point people to Jesus, the Author and perfector of our faith.

For fun, I get out power tools or sit at my sewing machine. I walk with friends or dig in my flowerbeds. My brain comes up with far more ideas than the hours of the day allow, and I’m still learning how to pace myself!
